little june buggy

I've been noticing recently an abundance of this particular species of beetle's carcasses littering the stairwell of my apartment.  I finally broke down and attempted to figure out what it was.  A friend of mine used his divine internet skills to ID it.  My little june bug friends are just that.  Spotted June beetles (Pelidnota punctata).

For some reason all I do when I see them is sing The Presidents of the United States of America song, Dune Buggy.  Except I change one letter.  That's right.  I modify the song to June Buggy.  Every time I get a quick flashback to... well... 1995.  We had their first album on tape.  Yep.  Tape.  We knew all the words.  My sister probably still does.

important things

I've learned some very important things today... some were intentional and school related while others were everyday matters.  They are as follows:

1. Event: Spilled red wine
Logical Lesson:  Put glasses of red wine in the kitchen when finished with them.  Especially if they still contain dark red liquid.
Actual Lesson:  Red wine looks like blood splatter/pooled blood from CSI... remember for haunted apartment idea for next halloween.
Side Note: Stains light yellow walls as well as white shirts.  Get satin finish for paint next time so can wipe things off easier.

2. Event:  Neighbor being stupid
Lesson:  Make sure neighbor is completely out of earshot before laughing at him.  Also look through peep hole when you hear him come up the stairs for bonus hilarity.

3. Event:  Talking to oneself.
Lesson: Do it more in public (people don't ask you about your relationship with Jesus if they think you're crazy), less in the library.

4. Event:  Chick flicks
Lesson:  When feeling sad and depressed, don't watch them.  Especially if they have Vince Vaughn in them... then end up being sad and angry.  Also possibility at wanting to break TV.

5. Event: Cleaning
Lesson:  Join a fraternity so pledges clean your house like stupid neighbor... pledges generally don't find it amusing if you ask them to clean your apartment... especially if your not in the fraternity...

Bonus Material:
Observation:  Its difficult for me to take displays of hypermasculinity seriously when they are done alongside the playing of Journey.  Even harder when displays include singing along to Journey...

coffee with mom

I come by my sense of humor naturally.  Mom sent me this today.  I do miss having coffee, real valiumless coffee, with her.

tiny ball of fluff

My friend's roommate got one of these little guys recently so naturally I had to inspect.  Best part: I GOT TO HOLD IT!  This is not it above, but looks sort of... not really... like it.  It's the same thing... only all grey.  It's name is Cricket and I just loved holding it.  It's so little and fits in the palm of my hand.  You know how some people act around REALLY cute babies.  Yeah I don't do that.  I do that over tiny hamsters and other critters.  I've been going a bit crazier than usual over animals lately.  I think I like them better than most people.  I've also been ridiculously cuddly lately and birdface will not cuddle.  Seriously, I've been trying extra hard lately.  He's having none of it.  He doesn't have too much of what I want most out of cuddling... body heat.  I'm so glad it's suppose to be warmer this week.  It's Florida for Pete's sake!

hat

So while reading the news online today (I had to cancel my Sunday subscription to the NYTimes.  I couldn't afford it anymore and felt silly since you can read it online.  Unfortunately it's not the same, but times are lean), I was reading an article about Bolivians backing a new constitution and thought about how much I love how the indigenous women wear these awesome bowler hats.  I really love the style and dress as well.  Very bright colors and vivid textures.  While there is something almost comical about it, I admire and find it very beautiful.

afternoon procrastination

Best Cartoon Ever:

This really fits my mood today.  I'm stressed because I have papers to write and zero motivation.  All I'd like to do today is gain all the weight I lost back and drink beers.  All day.
